How do i set my dvd player as my default media player on a dell xps 400?

You have to set each file type one at a time.
Right clk on a file (.mP3 / .avi / .wma etc...) and select Open With. Then browse for the media player and clk it. Check the box that says "Always Open This File Type with the selected player. (or something like that)
Change back the same way if you want to.
There is no global command to make all file types go to a selected player.
