Florida may or may not, you should double check this.

During the past decade there's been a few malfunctions, and i'm pretty sure "old sparky" got put to rest. I think we still do it, but have a new chair to do it with.

dogguy, some states will still allow you to choose to be killed by the firing squad. In one state an inmate had a choice of lethal injection (the primary penalty) or the firing squad and chose the firing squad. The firing squad is done at special request I guess you could call it.

Thanks Bill P, I didn't know the default was lethal injection here in FL, I thought it was the electric chair only.

It is currently an optional form of execution in the U.S. states of Alabama, South Carolina and Virginia, and the sole method of execution in Nebraska (the former three states allow the prisoner to choose lethal injection as an alternative method). In the states of Kentucky and Tennessee, the electric chair has been retired except for those whose capital crimes were committed prior to legislated dates in 1998. [Kentucky 31 March 1998, Tennessee 31 December 1998]. In both Kentucky and Tennessee, the method of execution authorized for crimes committed after these dates is lethal injection. The electric chair is an alternate form of execution approved for potential use in Illinois and Oklahoma if other forms of execution are found unconstitutional in the state at the time of execution. In Florida, the condemned may choose death by electrocution, but the default is lethal injection.

Not sure if I'm right, but I don't believe anybody uses that particular method anymore. Florida was the last state I knew of, but I think they started giving a needle in the paw a few years ago. I think Ted Bundy was the last one to ride the lightning, but again, I don't know for sure.

My favorite states are Washington and Utah. Until recently Washington gave the condemned person a choice between hanging and lethal injection. Hanging, how cool is that? The famous pervert and baby killer Wesley Alan Dodd chose hanging because that's how he killed one of his victims. I guess he made a good decision at least once in his worthless life.

Until the last few years Utah was using a firing squad.

The states would be AL, AK, FL, IL, OK, SC, TN, FL & Nebraska which is the only state that requires the electric chair method.

Some states don't have the death penalty. The EC is a prime example of cruel and unusual punishment.........

I think the death penalty is WRONG! They should rip up every electric chair in existance and throw it into the ocean!!!

It is optional method in
AL
SC
VA
But in Nebraska it is the only method.
Some states still have prisoners that have yet to be executed & have been sentenced to the electric chair & they will use it for them only.

Check out the link:

The light green states used to use the chair, but no longer do.

The dark green (teal) states currently use the chair.

Neither alaska nor hawaii are shown, but neither state uses or has used the chair.
