I've never heard of that. I can see they may not offer overdraft protection to people with bad credit, but I would be surprised if they even check your credit history when opening a checking account. If one bank turns you down, try another. Try a credit union if several banks turn you down.

If you absoultely cannot get a checking account with your social then consider filing a D.B.A. (Doing Business As) with your county. You can then get a Tax ID number and then you can open a business account using the Tax ID number.

It's not a matter of bad credit, rather if you have any bounced checks out there that haven't been taken care of or if you owe another bank for a closed account etc.

I'm not sure about that. I think banks can "black-list" certain people for certain behaviors.

I believe that State Farm has checking accounts that will allow people who can't get an account at a regular bank to have one.
Call a couple of your local State Farm agents and see if any of them know about that.

You can get a checking account as long as you don't owe any other banks money. And yes, I'm speaking from experience.

I have heard about banks doing that from experience with certain family members. I guess it all depends on the bank.

Depends on what state you're in. Georgia does that where as Illinois doesn't. So far.
