To be able to still be healthy and function normally?

I tried on 5-6 hours sleep each night for a week but ended up sleeping for about 12 on the Saturday night, would I get used to it in the end? Or get ill?

The average is 8-9 hours of sleep a night to function normally but many people only average around 7.

People who average 6 hours a night later showed an increase in chemicals in the blood that are connected with heart disease and diabetes.

80% of growth hormones are produced in the first phase of sleep and so sleep deprivation can also affect a persons growth pattern.

Sleep increases a persons ability to function ‘normally’, it helps with efficiency, extends a persons lifespan and helps to cure illnesses. Sleep deprivation will cause emotional disturbances, holucinations, agresiveness and depression.

Try get a little bit more sleep yeah!!

Depends on your age, and your personality though, too. If you´re still growing up, let your body rest for about eight hours a day, as an adult you should be rested well after six hours of sleep. When you´re sleeping less than that it will catch up on you later and will be sleeping the whole weekend away. There is no way to cheat about the time you need to rest. Besides, when you are a sleepyhead you´ll never be happy with short sleep. Or the other way around - when you are workoholic or hyperactive, you´ll be rested after four hours and less, but in the end you´ll be visitng a shrink for sleeping disorder.

It depends on you. The average is eight hours. I used to get by on 4-5 hours per night until I turned 40 ... at which point my need for sleep (among other things) seriously changed. I now don't do well without 6-7 hours of good sleep. However, a body can be trained, just like for physical strength or for a marathon. If you train yourself to get by on 4 hours, you can.
