Self-centeredness mostly. Many people are raised to think only of themselves: what they need, what they want, what is convenient or comfortable for them. It's the "me" generation and it's gone 'way too far. Raising children this way does not give them true security or self-esteem: it actually makes them scared and insecure inside because they can't truly feel a part of the human community. Some need to attract other people's attention, even if it's negative attention it's better than none. Some sad or angry people feel powerful when they can make someone else angry, sad, scared embarrassed or ashamed. All you can do is wish them well and stay out of the way. It's bad for ME if I get angry or upset when there's nothing I can do to change the situation. I win if I don't let these people get to me!

In a world of PC, "others" expect no challenges to their behaviors or beliefs and take it personally if they are challenged over knowledge. Being "offensive" used to mean someone with knowledge being outfront and insistent. I am considered offensive because I state facts straight out and am not PC. That was America before PC infected our free speech. Think about it.
