Yes, some teachers may be guilty of playing favorites. Even some parents are guilty of this without even realizing it. I take it you are the one who has been dealt with unfairly. My advice would be to speak to this teacher after class. Don't be confrontational or pout, but just ask him or her frankly, if there's anything you can do to improve your grades or attitude, since you've noticed that she doesn't give you the proper credit for your work, seems to ignore your best efforts, gives you low grades, or whatever it is that is bothering you. The fact that you care enough about your learning progress to ask her about it, should prove to her that you're sincere and that you want to make an effort to improve, if necessary. It could be she doesn't even realize that she's showing favoritism, and may ask you for examples. Just be truthful and up front, without bashing any of the "favored" students. Sometimes clearing the air is all it takes for a teacher to really notice you for the first time. If you do put forth your best efforts and you feel you're being graded unfairly, you may have to go over her head, and speak to the principal. But there again, don't be accusatory -- just be honest and sincere. Good luck!

It would depend on the extent of the problem. If there were clear and definite examples of mistreatment, I would speak to the teacher, then the principal, the superintendent and even if necessary the school governing board. If this did not work, I would consider removing the child from that school system and either home schooling to enrolling them in a different school nearby. If more than one student is involved, you might want to try talking to the other parents as well.
