No, I don't think it's boring. It may not be considered as "normal" here as in Europe, but to me, it is the best way to get to see and do what you want without having to accomodate other's wants. I've travelled alone to France, Italy, Monte Carlo, UK, Hawaii, CA, NYC, Chicago, and more; the only real difference is in Europe I get invited to join other tables in restaurants, and in the US the other diners may stare for a minute or two, but they get over it. My husband doesn't like to travel, so I just go ahead on my own. I plan in advance the things I definitely want to see, and sign up for day tours when applicable (many do hotel pick-up and drop-off, so I'm not wandering alone after dark or off snorkeling in an unsafe area alone). For the things I want to do alone, such as visiting museums or shopping, I just use cab service. If you have a strong will and can enjoy yourself without interaction from other people, I highly recommend travelling solo, both in the US and abroad.

I think traveling alone is not the thing to do or even enjoyable no matter where you go or want to go.

A very good friend is much better to have along. I feel that what I do and where I go has no real meaning unless I can share the feelings at the time.

It doesn't have to be. Be willing to talk to strangers, mingle with people at the museums or shops you visit, and be friendly. They may not be travelling with you, but it doesn't mean you can't be social. But get out there find stuff to do that you feel comfortable doing alone.

It really all depends on where you are planning on going. If your ging to a culturally rich town or city, such as New York, there are many ways to entertain yourself.

No offense, but if you get bored while traveling, then its really your own fault for not seeking something to do.
