the only way I know how when I came across the problem is to remove all contents and thoroughly wash EVERYTHING in a mild detergent and rinse very well. I then soaked the turtle in a separate place than the cage and slightly rubbed all over to make sure I got rid of all the mites and then returned all things back t the cage. When you feed the turtle make sure you pre-rinse all the food, (advise I was given by my vet) even if it says it was pre-rinsed at the store such as bagged spinach and such. It is also a good idea to rinse him off in a separate area if he/she was allowed to graze outside for a period of time.

go to a pet sotore and get a product named PROVENTAMITE, no this is a real insecticde so you don't want it in the water, make a tempoart cage for him and keep him there two weeks, tkae everything out and wash with Anitbactireal soap and water then let everything dry out and spray it LITLEY, do not soak it because this stuff is strong. I guanatee youy it will work 100%, I never seen mites again, that was 4 years ago. They sell this stuyfgf at sports good sotres but like most stuff at pet soters they take the smae product, change the name and add 50% to the price, after the cage sits two weeks add water and you will never see mites again.

I have included a link to a product that I absolutely swear by. Due to a friend's ignorance, my snakes got infested with mites while I was vacationing a few years ago. http://www.naturalchemistry.com/pet/StorePlus/Store/viewConsumerItems.asp?idProduct=65

That is the product I used to treat my animals, and it is completely safe. Remove the turtle, place him in another container, and spray him down. While he is soaking in the solution, clean his cage. Remove any rocks/gravel, and thoroughly scrub them. If you have the means, place them in a large pot of boiling water to sterilize them. Then thoroughly scrub the tank out, rinsing numerous times to ensure that no soap residue remains. Mist the tank with the mite solution, then wipe it thoroughly dry with a paper towel. Replace all the rocks, letting them cool if you've boiled them, put in fresh water, and voila...no more mites.

take everything out and clean it. soak your turtle in warm water. make sure when you put dirt in its cage that it is clean dirt. if you get the dirt outside make sure to put it in the oven on a cookie sheet to kill anything thats in it. good luck
