Earlier today, Commissioner Stern imposed the following fines and penalties on the participants in Saturday night's Knicks Nuggets brawl at Madison Square Garden:

* The Knicks and Nuggets organizations have each been fined $500,000 each as a result of the altercation.
* Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony has been suspended for 15 games.
* Knicks guard Nate Robinson has been suspended for 10 games.
* Nuggets guard J.R. Smith has been suspended for 10 games.
* Knicks guard Mardy Collins has been suspended for six games.
* Knicks forward Jared Jeffries has been suspended for four games.
* Knicks center Jerome James has been suspended for one game for leaving the bench during an on-court altercation.
* Nuggets forward Nene has been suspended one game for leaving the bench during an on-court altercation.

Was Commissioner Stern right - are these penalties fair?

Or are they too lenient?

Or are they too harsh?

First of all, there is no proof Isaiah Thomas had anything to do with his players acting in an unsportsman like way...they were getting killed because..yea, the knicks suck! They have sucked ever since ewing left...atleast that was about the last time they've gone to the playoffs or been over .500.

As for the fines and suspensions...i think they were fair...as much as they showed the brawl...i think they pretty much got everyone who was involved. I think Jefferies should have gotten more games than he should because after melo sucker punched Collins (and yes it was a sucker punch) Jefferies intended to continue the melee by running at melo with intent to provoke violence, so why did he only get 4 games...yea he didnt throw any punches, but you best believe he was assulting someone by running and having to be dragged off the court by his jersey

Also...according to the tape....nate robinson threw atleast 3 to 4 punches...melo got 15 games for one punch...robinson swung at someone and chased carmelo...he should have also gotten a couple of games for attempting to throw one off the glass to himself for a dunk on a fast break!!

i think everyone should have just got 10 games...u cant give a guy 15 games when others were just at fault...i mean new york has a right to be mad, their team sucks so all they can do is get in fights because their own fans are gonna boo them because they know they suck, i mean they have 10 guards on their team as it is...whats the point!!

lay the law comish...melo hurt me in fantasy this week but then again, iverson is one of the leading candidits for the allstar game and hes not even on a team!!

I think for some of them they are too lenient. I think anyone involved in any kind of actual fighting should be suspended for the rest of the season. There is just no excuse for the actions of the players that night. Take Carmelo Anthony, things were starting to settle down and he throws a sucker punch and runs away, causing the whole mess to escalate once again. Most people seem to be blaming the incident on one of the Coaches, either Thomas or Karl, but the truth is its strictly the players. Sure the Nuggets were running up the score, sure Collins committed a flagrant foul, but neither of those are a reason to fight. If your the Nuggets and you just had a flagrant foul called in your favor, not only do you get free throws but you get the ball back and you can run up the score even more. NBA players should be mature enough to let the officials handle any problems on the court and not feel the need to start fighting.

Very Simple ...

Not Fair

Why? Less than a year ago there was a fight between two players and the suspensions were 3 and 5 games. There were actual punches thrown in this fight and there was more than one.

How does one punch deserve three times as much punishment? It doesn't.

Stern was just sending a message to everybody. I hope that the next time this happens the player will get a 45 game suspension because apparently Stern has set a standard of tripling the punishment every time it happens.

Oh and how in the world does Isiah Thomas get out of this scott free? I think he should have been punished and fired. He is an embarrassment to the NBA and to the Knicks.

The punishmest is just. Each team knew the consiquencese of a brawl of this nature and still took part. Grown men who let anger get he best of them often pay a heavy price.

Be warned. The next future brawl will endure even more taxing suspensions than this.

These guys should consider themselves lucky. If the average Joe starts a brawl at his work place he will more than likely be out of a job.

15 games? He'll live and still have his job.

I think the fines for the players were fair especially Carmelo's. I couldn't believe he threw a sucker punch and ran like that. Now far as the teams fine I think that should of been more that way maybe management wouldn't be making stupid comments. Thomas shouldn't of been fine because he's going to be unemployed anyway.

Isiah's days HAVE to be numbered...

This team is AWFUL and its entirely HIS FAULT...

THAT's what George Karl is saying: It wasn't Larry Brown's fault last year, and Larry Brown is a hundred times the man and the coach that Thomas will ever be...

That's what this is all about...

George Karl showing the whole basketball world how truly AWFUL the Knicks are...and he's also showing that ISIAH is a hammerhead who set Larry Brown up with a terrible team...

Carlson replaced into fined for the same quantity of money and were given a three-recreation suspension. i imagine that's straightforward. i concept both gamers were responsible, and Posada DID initiate the actual stuff with the help of elbowing Carlson. with the help of ways.. he replaced into fined 3 thousand money, not thirty thousand.

I think they were not harsh enough in all honesty. I mean look at it, these guys don't play with heart at all anymore. They go out there, act like idiots, and rake in millions. I mean hell, I would rather watch a group of guys that were less talented but had better sportsmanship then the guys I watch on the TV today.

It seems fair to me, although Thomas should have been suspended for a game or two..
