I recently acquired a sports jersey that was autographed by a famous athlete. The people who gave me the jersey claim it is a genuine autograph. Is this jersey worthless without a certificate of authenticity (proving the signature is real). Is there a way to obtain such a certificate?

Just because you don't have a record of authenticity does not make the item worthless. There are people who have the job of determining if a signature is legitimate. An example being the website below.

are you concerned with the resale value of the jersey or the fact that you have an autographed jersey by an athlete that you admire?

to answer your question, no it still has value.

If the famous athlete is still alive, try to contact his agent and have them send you a letter of authenticity. They might like to help...

no, usually if someone gets an autograph they will take a picture of the person signing autographs. but there is no way of getting a certificate if it never had one.

you can have the jersey determined to be real by an authenticator and they will issue a certificate to u if indeed it is real.

famous athletes only sign them once and people fotocopy their signiture and out them into the shirts, they don't have time for that
