Define "best".

The past 15 years or so, Whitney in Cerritos has usually had the highest academic rating. The big 3 are Whitney, Lowell (San Fran), and Gunn (Palo Alto). Sometimes you'll have other schools that will jump up into the 2nd or 3rd places.

While Whitney has the highest test scores, it's a tiny school. Lowell and Gunn are more well rounded. So, it's hard to say which is the "best" public school.

To my knowledge, no one has ever ranked public schools nationally for academics. It's hard enough comparing the API scores for the schools in California.

The best one is Roosevelt high in Los Angeles, CA. It has so much history, and it is just a big school too. When I was there, we had russian students, so everyone would make fun of them...bye!
