Don't even include appearance because it does matter to some degree. You would not want a mate that you did not find attractive.

Yes, appearance is important. But to me, appearance is only 50% of what I find attractive. I am 30 years old and, although I'm not conceited, I know that I'm a very pretty woman...in other words, just because the lady is pretty, don't be intimidated, the man physical attractiveness isn't that important to me. The main things I look for/attracted to are:

personality
sense of humor
intelligence
loves kids or if he's just being nice to them(you can tell a difference, or I can)
decent income, (not gold digging, but must be able to provide decently for the family when combined with the woman's income also)(every woman wants security)

....although I wish that it did, love alone doesn't pay the bills

Gee my husband is very HOTT. We don't have any kids yet but made the decision to conceive next year. I think a man who can always discuss effective ways of raising a child (i.e. reprimanding in an educational way). A mate that will be connected with you on all levels. A mate that will bring the woman out of me and I the man out of him. I respect my husband and look up to him. He's kind, gentle, smart and flexible. We learn alot from eachother.

Happy Holidays to you and yours!

if you have children would you rather have a kind loving and considerate person or would you rather have a beauty queen?
naturally everyone would like both. but if you had to choose.... there are many average looking women around that love kids.
most of the trophy wives are more interested in what you can give them compared to what she can do for the family!

Attractiveness counts, but there are other things to consider in a long term relationship when there are kids involved.

How he/she is with kids?
Does he/she enjoy being around kids?
Do your kids like him/her?
Do your kids get along with him/her?
What are their views on parenting?
Does him/her have kids?
Do all the kids get along with each other?
Is him/her an active parent with their own kids?
If a noncustodial parent, do they pay child support on a regular basis?
