Video killed the Radio Star was the first video ever shown on MTV. 1982. While it is true that the Beatles did their movies before that, I would submit that Ed Sullivan's shows had live appearances of the Doors etc. that were more the right length of a video. Maybe it was Victor Borge...

Video Killed the radio star, by the Buggles. Was the " First " video to be aired on American MTV.
But it's by far not the first video to be aired.The Bee Gee's had a viedo out back in the late 70's "staying Alive" that came on a few times on Top of the Pops (British music show) there was a few groups, that was showen.Sorry cant remember them all, but i know it wasnt the Buggles.

I recommend reading the Wikipedia entry on "Music Video"--music videos, in one form or another, go back as far as the 1920s. Promotional clips for songs--very much like modern music videos--were common in the 1950s and 60s. The Doors started making clips as early as "Break on Through", but the one you should look for on YouTube is "Unknown Soldier" from 1969.
