multiply the 2 by the (n-2) so your proble looks like this:
5n - (2n - 4) = -11<>subtract 5 from each sideso it looks like this:
-5n<><><><>-5n
--------------------------
(0) - 2n-4 = -11 - 5n<><>add the four to each side subtract the negative 5 form each side. It should look like this:
3n=-7 now divide both numbers by the number with the variable (3n)
--<>--
3><3
n=2.33333333
or 2 and 1/3

i haven't done math in a while and there are different answers but i thought i'd give it a shot...
5n - 2(n-2)= -11
parenthesis first! (-2 x n and -2 x -2)
5n-2n +4=-11
then leave variables on one side, non variables on the other
5n-2n +4=-11
- 4 - 4
5n-2n=-15
3n=-15 then divide 3 on both sides
n=-5
well i hope it's right..if it is i hope it helps

Maybe even Sarah can learn......
5n-2(n-2)=-11
5n-2n+4=-11
3n+4=-11
3n = -11 -4 = -15
n = -15/3 = -5
Voila!!!

First distribute the 2 inside the parentheses
5n-2n+2=-11________Don't forget to carry the negative!
Combine like terms
3n+2=-11
Get rid of non-variables
3n=-13
Then divide by the three.
n=-4 1/3
Got it?

first you distribute
5n-2n+4=-11
then u do simple subtraction
3n-4=-11
then you subtract 4 to both sides
3n=-13
then you divided by 3
n=-4.333333...
there you go
ps. in not that great at math, so double check before you hand it in!!
