I have cried pleaded and screamed about keeping the house dirt and dust free but I can't get the point across without being mean. I need to find a new approach before he desides to leave me...Anyone have any suggestions?

Go on strike! I did and it worked like a dream. I worked a full time job and then took care of the house and children at night. My husband worked a full time job and then came home and played with his hobbies or layed around on the couch watching TV. Then one day when he got out of the shower in the morning before going to work, he complained that he had no clean underwear. Well, he wore no underwear that day to work, which made him quite uncomfortable when wearing a suit, and came home and washed clothes. I also noticed him picking up the dirty dishes, taking care of the boys, etc. Going on strike was the best thing I ever did!

Keeping your home clean is not woman's work or man's work, exclusively, it's the duty of the people who share the house. The problem is that most women tend to do it for their kids and the boys grow up expecting the female in their lives to do it.

Find things that he doesn't mind doing and you do the things that you want to do. I've never had a problem with making beds, washing dishes, laundry, changing diapers and such...but my wife still had the nerve to call me lazy because I didn't do it constantly.

Just let him know that you'd like some help and don't be a ***** about it.

Two things to recognize. First, you have to find that fine middle ground between a house clean enough to be healthy but messy enough to be happy. Secondly, you ain't gonna change him. If his momma didn't do an adequate job teaching him the finer points of neatness and all that, it's too late. See, us guys have a big problem, known as testosterone. It makes us stubborn as a Kentucky mule and feisty as a banty rooster. Nagging us never works. sweetness does - yeah, we're talking sickeningly sweet. Hey - y'don't like the way we are, blame Mother Nature.
Your distress is somewhat ironic: In my first marriage, I was the neatness freak - well, ten years as an Army sergeant having to keep after dumb-as-rocks teenage privates to keep their quarters neat kinda gets ingrained into yer soul - and my ex could'a cheerfully killed me for ragging on HER about her slovenliness all the time! Look, leave the place in a less-than-perfect condition and you both will be happier - else you're gonna have to find another - and guys like me who particularly appreciate neatness are rare as hen's teeth. And we're invariably already married!

YEP!! Mine did the same thing...just stop cleaning his stuff up (only do yours!)!! It will drive you nuts for a while and then he will realize what messes he actually makes!! It might take a couple of weeks and then you will hear an apology or he might just actually clean it up himself!!! It worked for me!!!! :)

I've tried being nice about it, and it results in nothing. I always do the dishes, clean out the cat litter and clean in general. He takes out the trash but usually only if it's piled up.... If you figure it out, let me know.
