I'm wondering if someone at school isn't straight but I'm not going to ask them.

you cannot tell by just looking at someone. You need to ask or observe over a period of time

No, I don't think you can tell, unless they wear something flamboyant. But, just by looking at someone, no. That would be dangerous.
When I was in the military, one of my supervisors was very feminine. He sashayed when he walked, always licked his lips in a seductive way, and talked with a lisp. He even had curly hair that hung down his forehead. If you didn't know the guy, you'd swear he was the recent centerfold from "Mr. Gay Magazine". (No such mag, I don't think...) Anyway, the guy had a wife and 8 kids!! He was in the military for 20 years. The guy acted like a flame, presented himself as a flame, but wasn't even a flicker. Straight as an arrow. And an outstanding father.
I wouldn't go up and ask 'em either. If you're wrong, you may get punched out. Just let things ride. Maybe you'll earn mutual trust to share the truth someday.

you can't tell either way. Some Nelly Guys can be Str8 and some Str8 looking Guys and girls can be gay. Even if you have Gaydar your never 100% sure. And why are you wanting to know. Is there this Str8 man you like and wish he was Gay, well get over it, Go to a Gay bar where you don't have to ask such questions.

The only way you can tell if a guy is gay without asking him is if he's carrying a large sign that says I AM GAY!
You can safely assume that guy is gay, without even asking.
Also, if a guy is the Grand Marshall of your town's gay pride parade, it's a safe bet that he's gay.
Anybody else, you've got to ask them! There's no way to tell just by looking.

The eyes. I busted some "Straight" guys checking out *** es, just from the side look for their eyes darting checking out guys. You'll know cuz you and I do it, Ha! Up and down. Hells yeah.

By their gaydar.
If they look at you and make eye contact, nod and hold eye contact for more than a "comfortable" time frame their doing one of two things. One, sizing you up or two, sizing you up for trouble. There's a big difference in the look : )

why does it matter...why put someone on the spot to satisfy your own curiosity?? even if you knew the answer without a doubt would it make a difference...I doubt it.
to answer your question....the truth of the matter is you cannot tell just by looking at someone. i for one shocked everyone i knew when i came out.

Look at their eyes. Gays have shifty eyes, because they are insecure, and think world does not approve of them.
Another tell tale---fidgety fingers, particularly when you admire members of the opposite sex. Say you are sitting with a gay male, and a blonde goes by and you whistle---gay will get very nervous and start moving his fingers.

If they flirt back! They would usually stare back if you stare at them, in a flirtatious way of course.
