What is the best way to refresh Windows XP short of reinstalling all software? Right now I am using SystemSuite 6 on a routine basis, I run Webroot's Spysweeper as well. My computer is working okay but it seems to hang now and then, especially when I do a shutdown.

Run the Disk Cleaner wizard to clean out all the temp files and junk on your pc. Uninstall all programs that you don't use. Disable apps that you don't need running in backgrounds like office fastboot, adobe faststart or something like that. Delete the Prefetch folder in C:\windows. Run disk defragment. The computer seems to hang because window xp is going around trying to close all running apps and some apps are very stuborn.

I was impressed at the results of using the free utility CCleaner (crap cleaner). It's free, check it out at www.ccleaner.com.

Also, I hope you've defragged your drive lately...
