I think that it is wrong to abbreviate, just simply because it's taking the Christ out of Christmas.

Well I'm a Christian and I choose not to ever abbreviate it. Some one once told me it's taking "Christ" out of Christmas and I got all convicted... but if you're not Christian, then X it away, it's a personal choice. It doesn't bother me when I see it. I just don't do it.

I get so sick of people saying that Xmas is crossing out Christ. That is not true at all.
In the Greek language, X is the first letter of their word for Christ. It would be the equivalent of saying C-mas in English. Probably centuries ago, people were more used to putting in the letter X to stand for Christ. Today, we've forgotten our language roots, and too many of us assume the worst.
For those of you who are upset by the X, think of the X as a type of a cross--you know, the thing that Jesus was born to die upon for us.

X has been used as an abbreviation for Christ for about 1,000 years.

If you think it's wrong then it's wrong. Personally, I never abbreviate it, I always spell it out, but that's just me!
Merry Christmas!

I've never like the word XMAS, it's for people that were to lazy to write the word properly. The word Christmas looks more festive and is the correct spelling.

NO IT IS NOT WRONG TO ABBREVIATE IT. SAYING MERRY X-MAS IS STILL THE SAME IS SAYING MERRY CHRISTMAS. X-MAS IS JUST A LINGO PEOPLE HAVE MADE SO THAT THEY DONT HAVE TO TYPE THE WHOLE CHRISTMAS . BUT THEN THERE ARE THOSE PEOPLE THAT WILL SAY THAT YOU ARE NOT HONORING CHRIST BECASE YOU DONT TYPE THE WHOLE WORD. I THINK THEY ARE CRAZY. BECAUSE THE WHOLE REASON FOR CHRISTMAS IS SO THAT WE WILL CELEBRATE THE DAY CHRIST WAS BORN. (RIGHT?) IT DOESNT MATTER HOW YOU SAY IT.

Well I would say yes, it is wrong to X out the name of Christ. He is the reason, after all for us celebrating in the first place. And since there is no other name under heaven whereby man can be saved, I don't think it's such a profitable idea.

X is the Greek letter chi and the first letter for Christ.
a) It is a nifty reminder of Christ when you write.
b) If it bothers you, then yes it is wrong.
By the way, may you find great joy this Xmas.
