My husband and I have been together for 7 years and married for 6 months. My husband is 25 and I am 24.
We hope to have children of our own as well. But I have always wanted to adopt and I am passionate about it. My husband feels the same way.
I need advice on where to start? I have done some research but what are the steps. How much money do we have to make? What do we need in the bank to even be considered as eligible to adopt?
Any tips or recommendations are welcome. Please.
I live in BC. We would love to adopt intercountry.
What do we need to prepare ourselves for? When should we start?

A good site to start with is www.adoptuskids.org

Some good books are:

The International Adoption Handbook and one called "Hungarian Rhapsody: An Adoption Story"

Both focus on international adoptions

The adoption process is often long and expensive. My dad and step mom tried in-vitro and couldn't have kids, so they considered adoption.

After research, they decided that in the long term it is quicker to be a parent and costs less to be a foster parent. Although, it may be challenging to send a child that you've cared for back to their biological parent, you've made a world of difference to that child's life by providing them a safe and loving home.

You take parenting classes and receive support from the agencies with social workers and even some financial help with buying the essentials such as milk, eggs and formula.

I went from being an only child to being the proud big sis of 3 little ones. For the 4 years that they've been fostering children, only 2 have gone back to their biological parents. Our entire family embraced their decision and now we're literally a big, happy family.

I hope you consider fostering children. You can decide ages and how many children come into your home as well as how challenging they are, behaviorally speaking. If you're ready for children this will be a great step towards parenting. I hope you have wonderful luck as my parents have had in starting your own family.

Please be very careful when adopting a child from another country.

A good friend and a doctor had a horrible experience. When adopting a baby from Chili he and his wife went to bring the baby home to find he was mentally retarded and had encephelitis.

They were heartbroken to say the least. Do be sure to recover all medical records from the child whatever you do.

I admire what you are doing and wish you all the blessings you can hold. Hope you find the info you are looking for.
