It was actually 2 battles: Bunker Hill and Breed's Hill. It was considered a moral victory for the colonies because it proved that colonial soldiers could cope with fighting the British army, which was considered the best in the world at the time.

ooh. i had this question for my social studies homework two weeks ago! technically, the battle of bunker hill occured in breed's hill. the peeps decided to fight in breed's hill because it had a better like... view, or something... of the boston coastline thingy. well. anyway. it was a moral victory because they were able to prove to the buh-rits that they could fight, and that they weren't willing to back down despite the fact that their troops weren't as organized as the brits and that they didn't have enough gunpowder and things. but seriously, do your own homework. i actually had to read between the lines of my textbook for that. oh. and. even though the brits did win, they lost a much larger number of soldiers than the americans.

British soldiers charged the front part of the American lines instead of going to the side and flanking then, which would have resulted in compleat victory. The British charged but were repelled many times by the Americans until a few thousand British were killed and only about 200 Americans were killed.
