There are a number of ways to optimize the virtual memory (a.k.a. paging file). Below, I provided information on how to set the size of the paging file. You can read the entire article:

"Boosting Windows XP Performance by Optimizing Memory Usage" (http://winston-blog.blogspot.com/2006/09/boost-windows-xp-performance-by.html)

Optimize the size of the paging file. As a rule, the size of the paging file should be 1.5x the amount of RAM. If you have 256 MB or less of RAM then set the size to 384 MB. If you have 512 MB or more of RAM then set the size to 512MB. If you have 1 GB or more of RAM then set the size to 768 MB. Some computer experts suggest if you have 1 GB or more of RAM then you can try setting the size to 0 (i.e. don’t use a paging file at all). Follow these steps to change the size of the paging file.
•Use an account with administrative privileges.
•Right click My Computer > Properties > Advanced > under “Performance,” click [Settings] > choose the “Advanced” tab > under “Virtual Memory,” click [Change].
•Choose “Custom size” and set the “Initial size” and “Maximum size” to the same value.
•Click [Set] > [O.K.]. Reboot.

Your Virtual Memory is supposed to be 1.5 times the amount of RAM installed. You should install more RAM as opposed to increasing your Virtual Memory.

I wouldnt suggest maximizing your virtual memory, because it holds aside of your HD for the page file. You should increase it thought, go here... right click desktop>properties>advanced>se tt1ngs under performance> virtual memory..

It's better for you to add more memory, try to change your memory capacity to 512MB if you are using your computer more on games. This is the best I can advice you, changing the virtual memory size to it's maximum capacity will only give you 10% of wat it can do.

Right click on MY COMPUTER go to PROPERTIES>ADVANCED>PERFORMANCE:SETTINGS
ADVANCED>VIRTUAL MEMORY:SETTINGS
increase the number.
But i would recommend buying more memory (RAM)
virtual memory is actually space on your hard drive and for the computer to access this, its slower than ram. if this werent the case we wouldnt have memory.
