Number is not coming up on caller ID--shows as 'unavailable'. Is there ANYTHING I can do? It's been dialing me every 2-3 minutes for the past hour. don't these machines get a clue after a while if the recipient doesn't pick up or it goes to VM?

That happened to me on my land line; I tried calling the operator to block the number, but they tried to sell me more features! And it turned out call blocking wouldn't have worked, either. So I turned off the phone. After a day, it stopped.
I think you can block all numbers that won't display on the caller ID feature in your phone; that could work. All it takes is a set of transposed numbers in a phone number to make someone suffer; likely just a dumb mistake.
If you have call forwarding, you might be able to forward the call to a known fax machine and see what the message is. Then you could call them back!

Good luck

Call the phone company and ask for a block or a tracer back to the number so that you can fax back a desist order.

Not if they're mechanical. Try *69. If that doesn't work, call your phone company and ask if they can get you the number or a voice number to that place so you can ask them to stop.
