Ionic Bond
A type of bond formed when electrons are transferred from one atom to another creating oppositely charged ions that attract one another.

Ionic. So called because if atom A gives an electron to atom B, then they both become ions--atom A has a positive charge and atom B has a negative charge. An example is how Na and Cl combine to give Na+ and Cl-, which are then attracted to each other because of their opposite charges, giving NaCl, or table salt.
