Using a Sharpie pen on paper on a wood finish dining room table, the ink soaked through the paper and left blue marks in the wood, almost as though it went through the finish. No luck with Endust, vinegar, or candle wax remover. Any recommendations?

Well, the isopropyl alcohol was a bad idea. It took the finish right off. Now the table looks worse than it did with the ink stains.

You folks might be right. I thought rubbing alcohol and isopropyl alcohol were the same thing, and some places on the web suggest they are, but Wikipedia makes it pretty clear that they are two different chemicals. It will have to wait until tomorrow, so I hope it isn't too late, but I'll try the rubbing alcohol and see if I get better results. (Also, Endust seems to make the finish look better, even if it doesn't completely mask the part I rubbed off.)

Thanks for your help. I'll keep trying.
