2Mg + O2 ===> 2MgO Magnesium burns with a white-hot flame to give a white powder.
2Cu + O2 ===> 2CuO Copper oxidizes slowly in the air to give a black powder.
CaO + H2O ===> Ca(OH)2 Calcium oxide (lime) reacts with water to form a white sludge only slightly soluble in water.

Zn + 2HCl ===> ZnCl2 + H2(g) A water-white solution in water with evolution of hydrogen gas.
Zn + CuSO4 ===> ZnSO4 Blue solution of copper decolorizes (turns water white) as red copper metal deposits on the Zn.
Cu + AgNO3 No reaction. Red copper metal does not change color.
Ca + 2H2O ===> Ca(OH)2 + H2 Slow fine bubbles as gray calcium metal turns to white sludge.

AgNO3 + NaCl ===> AgCl(s) + NaNO3 Add NH4OH. If AgCl, then it dissolves to a water-white solution. Add HNO3. The white AgCl(s) falls out of solution again.
AlCl3 + 3NH4OH ===> Al(OH)3(s) + 3NH4CL
