A lot of people in North America who are not of Chinese background seem to be adopting children from China. Chinese children are very much in demand as adoption candidates. A lot of them are girls.
Is it realistic to believe that their parents do not want them just because they are girls, and couples in China only want boys? Is it another lie which the public is being fed? Is it possible or even probable that the children are being snatched or stolen from their parents, and government bureaucrats in China are telling the adoptive parents that the children were given away by their parents?
You know how social workers often work. In North America they seem to harbour some high hatted and condescending notion that only middle class couples are worthy of having children. They tend to lie a lot in North America when it comes to child apprehension and adoption, so it makes sense that they might lie in China as well. Private adoption agencies also would have motives for lying.

I find it hard to believe that the parents would willingly give their children up for adoption and not miss them and wonder where they are. It does not seem to be part of human nature in any part of the world to do this type of thing.

Chinese people are only aloud to have one child. Any more go into orphanages or are killed by the family.
Only female are allowed to be adopted. Males must stay in China.

I would be very surprised by this fact, and I think you are probably incorrect in your assessment. The fact is that the people of China are restricted to one child, and they basically want males only. They will even go to ultrasound clinics and have female children aborted (they do this in the Countries of the Indian Sub continent too, which in my opinion is abhorrent). There is currently a huge shortage of marriageable women in China because of this practise, and the few woman that are there now, don't want to marry the men available, because they have been coddled and spoiled to the point that they are looking for a mother, not a wife, and the woman that are there aren't having any part of it. So as far as a surplus of Chinese girl babies, this I believe is wrong, and you need to get your facts straight.

Decide for yourself, but please do not generalize, speak out of ignorance or state only the extreme, as the some already have here. Part of the issue is simply the sheer size of the Chinese population. Representing one sixth of all humanity, there are simply numerically more orphans. But yes, child trafficking is indeed a concern.

Oh -- and yes, it is possible to adopt a boy from China. For some reason, however, most American families perfer girls but boys too are adopted, and not just those with medical conditions.

I think you need to get out of the US (or wherever you are from) and travel to learn what things are like. Chinese orphanages are overflowing, there is no need to snatch babies. In the rural economy there is no social security, traditionally support in old age comes from sons. Daughters go to the husband's family.
If babies were being stolen wouldn't you expect to see boys as well?
I am a westerner who has lived in China for 20 years. Chinese are not "just like us" - you cannot extrapolate from your beliefs to what life is like here. Cultural, historic, and economic differences have caused the lao bai xing to differ from John Q Public.

It is a belief that when a son in a family grows up, the son, when he is an adult, will take care of his parents. On the other hand, daughters growing up will go off to have a family of their own.
Not just that...a lot of chinese couples like to be taken care of when elderly age especially in the rural parts of the country when assisted living isn't really available.
Funny how chinese people go by these beliefs while we Americans just let our grandparents live on their on in their house while their children have families of their own [of course some of us want to get away from our parents anyway].
Also, the law of having one child in a family is due to the country's dense population. It is known to be one of the most populated country in the world and counting to almost more than 1 billion people. Even though, the population is going to be devastated with the lack of eligible women to have families with years later.
This is why they have adoption agencies for abandoned girls. Some families either leave them in places like on a beach and let them suffer by themselves on their own or put them in the "dying room" where they just put little baby girls to slowly die in a hut of baby corpses.

They have mind controlling microchips in the brains that have been implanted there by the Chinese government. After the children are all grown up and in high level jobs, the Chicoms activate the chips to overthrow the US.
