Cant find it in the control panel, am i on the right track?

no. start > programs > accessories > system tools..

No, its not in control panel. Go to start up menu, go to tools section, inside tools section will be a list, within list will say "system defragmentation."

Go Start,Programs,Accessories,System tools and Disk Defragment.

go to "My Computer" and find "Local Disk" then do a left or a right click and a window will show then go to tools and thats where u can find the defragmen icon

you can also click on my computer, then click on drive c, or whatever your hard drive is labeled. Right Click then click properties and then click tools. Here you can run disk check and defrag from one place. Good Luck!
