Do you mean Benedict Arnold? He was a General (in the American Revolution) and he was in charge of West Point.

Here's a good Wikipedia article on him:

Benedict Arnold was considered to be one of the greatest generals in the American army, and was placed in charge of defending West Point. Instead, he handed it over to the British. He then moved to England, thinking they would welcome him, but they felt he had no honor for turning traitor, and he ended up virtually friendless on a small island off the coast of England.

That would be Benedict Arnold who commanded West Point in July of 1780. He then made an offer to the British to surrender West Point to them for £20,000 and a brigadier's commission.
