First read ... read every poet, every bard, every critic on poetry ...

Go to Representative Poetry Online (RPO), at: http://rpo.library.utoronto.ca/display/index.cfm

And read what you can.

Then write ... write day and night and weekend, write madness and sorrow, anger and sex and whatever you or some can feel, and then, why, take Twain's advice: Write more!

If you think some of your writing is worthwhile, then find someone you can trust, or some complete strangers, and prepare yourself for honesty (else attack the messenger)!

write now.

Poetry can be hard and easy at the same time. ANyone can rhyme because children in elementary are doing exactly this. I suggest you take a Literature course at your community college and make sure that they cover poetry. There are various types of poerty out there. There are written in 8 lines and every other line rhyme with everyother for example
Rhyme A and B
A
B
A
B
A

ALso........ therere are oither like abba abba & ab ac ab ab

Each like has a rhythm which is counted by its syllables. If you look at Poems by robert frost you'll see what I mean. He used rhythm and rhyme very beautifully.
Other poems have onomatopeia. FIre and Ice poem has this.

Many peope think that becaus ethey know how to rhyme and know many word they are able to write poems but in reality it is bunch of bolony.............. take a course just an intro one and once you're studied what it takes to write a poem then You'll know what kids of style you want to aquire. You don't need to get a degree, just take a beginnirs course to poetry. Good luck!

There is other types of poetry like prose and it doesn't neceserraly need to rhyme.

Read poetry by other people.
Get the book "Poetry for Dummies" (not referring to you, just the book's title), read it thoughtfully.
Practice--they way you get good at anything.
When writing a poem, get something down on paper. Until you do that, it's hard to have anything to work with. It's hard to get started and get anything done. List the things you want to write about, and list the things related to them. Any phrases that pop into your mind, write them down. Then start working with your material.
Poetry, of all types of writing, is difficult if not impossible, to teach. It is very intuitive, meaning you must feel your way along.
Hope this helps.

Well to some, poetry is subjective. Someone may like your poetry and others may not. Just learn to express yourself through writing. First, I would start out with just prose.

Stop rhyming. You'll find your poems are more honest and offer greater emotional clarity for both you and the reader if you write freeform. Also, look into reading Irving Layton -- he's the best poet there is (was).
