Is there a way to keep terrorism from being a reason to take away our rights?

Learn the constitution and how to form arguements that the supreme court will uphold. What the Bush administration is doing is only illigal when you can prove it in a court of law. The good news is anyone that comes up with a solid arguement that a judge sides on can cancel policy that takes away your rights.

Yes, but you may have to be open to understand what it is the terrorists want. Terrorism is a technique, and we need to understand the motive. Maybe we just need to stop, as a country, doing the things that make the US (not Canada, not Sweden, not New Zealand, all of whose "freedom" terrorists could hate...) so despised. Iraq is a breeding ground/recruiting poster for terrorism because the terrorists (we called them contras when we supplied them in South America) hate what we did there.

We have violated some peoples rights during previous wars, but after the war we returned to protecting people's rights, and the country and our Constitution remained in good shape.
Don't allow yourself to put the Constitution ahead of the welfare of the country.
If this country is destroyed, the Constitution will become a lonely piece of paper flapping in the wind.
