I used AVAST for about 6 months.
I would rate it a 4 / 5
Better choices I've found over AVAST
and use daily are:

AntiVir PE Classic 4.8 / 5
AVG Free Anti Virus 4.5 / 5

Both are available and best of all free at most freeware sites. I've been using both for over 2 years now and can't say a bad word saved my bacon a few times..

Here's a couple of Anti Trojan /Spyware
freebies that work really well also

Spyware Terminator 5 / 5
AVG Anti Spyware 4.5 / 5
Spyware balster 4 / 5

Safe Surfing hope these help :)

Yes, but it use up a lot of resources on your PC. You can give this app here a try : http://www.free-av.com It use almost no system resources and won't slow down your PC like Avast does.

Avast is good...but this is what I dislike about it, it has a tendency to give false positives reading plus it takes way to long to scan your computer...when I used it it took 3 hours to scan my computer.

I now use avg free 7.5. It is great and no false positives, plus it scans in about 36 minutes and does not slow my computer down.
