go into ctrl + alt + del and go in performance and look at your processes.. there should really be no more then 40-50.. Then go into your processes tab and arrange the processes in order from most consuming to least consuming by clicking mem usage at the top. If there is any process running at more then 35,000-40kb then you are having issues. Go into msconfig and click on startup tab and disable what shouldnt be there, be careful with this and google each process you are not familiar with. Next go into system properties and the advanced tab. Click on performance and then "settings" under performance. Increase your page file size to at least 1.5x how much ram you have, so if you have 512 make the page file at least 768mb if not more.. Then get adaware from download.com and run a scan.. If all else fails back up your data and put a fresh install of XP on..

You say you know what it is, but can't delete it. I assume you mean you have used task manager to see what is running and noticed it. Can you delete the file if you stop it running in task manager? Is this an actual application that is running and you can't uninstall it? Or is it a single executable file that is starting with windows and runs in the background? Have you tried using Msconfig to stop any rogue programs running from startup? To do this, go to the start menu and click on run. Type msconfig. When it pops up, click on the startup tab at the top. Untick anything that looks odd. You can actually untick everything if you want to. Then click on the services tab. Look down the list for anything that looks like it should not be running and untick it. Apply and close. You will be asked to restart. When started, a box will apear. tick the Do not show this message again and close it. If the file is still running in taskmanager, download Revo Uninstaller. I'ts free. This little prog will unistall any application but also searches deep into every folder and the registry to find any trace that is left. just click delete if it unistalls this file or application and finds residual bits. If it is some kind of malware that has been plonked into your operating system and you know what file it is and where it is, but cannot delete it, you can download a windows 98 startup disk image or a boot disk image and put it on either a cd or floppy. This is needed to get into ms dos before windows loads. When in ms dos and you see the flashing arrow perhaps saying E:> Type C:\ The flashing bit will change to C:> This means ms dos is now looking at your hard drive. Now if you know where the file is you want to delete..For instance in the system 32 folder..Type C:\ delete Windows\System32\name of file then press enter. This will delete the file so it cannot start running on startup. It could well be that the file is now part of your op system and if deleted will prevent something in windows working. In which case just re-install windows.

My suggestion is this.... In the google search bar type in Ccleaner and go to the filehippo site and download the latest version. Run the program and "clean" your computer. This program will NOT mess up your computer it will NOT change any settings or programs. It will simple clean up bad file strings and old urls. Read about the program a little if your unsure about it but personally I love this tiny little piece of software.
IF you run this and do not notice a difference the best application for finding virus and malware/adware is at http://www.ewido.net I suggest running this program once and letting it get rid of everything it finds. Make sure in the settings/ options to tell it not to run at start up. You don't need it listening to the internet you just want it to find junk on your pc and get rid of it for you. If this does not help then I would reformat the computer. Back up everything you wish to save and pull out those disc's that you got with the computer and get to work re installing windows. Or pay someone 100.00 or more to re install windows for you. You can find really easy instructions for this at http://helpdesk.its.uiowa.edu/windows/instructions/reformat.htm
these have display pic's of exactly what steps you take to re format and screen shots of what you will see as you do it. I printed this page out and then re formated my computer without a problem.
Good luck and I hope you don't have to pay someone to fix this. TO many people think it's to hard to re format but its not and you pay someone 100.00 or more for a few clicks of a mouse.

Working with a slow computer can be time consuming as programs/ applications take a long time to start. This problem is more pronounced in computers which have been used for 6 or more months. More information at http://fixit.in/slowcomputer.html

To answer your question make sure you verify your spyware & virus statut. Als if you had install heavy programs a few days ago investigate if you could replace them with lighter program.

At your stater menu make sure not all program start on your background.

Email me to find how to do all that.

Have you cleared your cache and cookies? Do you have a lot of start up programs running? check these things before you freak. It's always advisable to run regular virus scans. Clear your cache and cookies, check your start up programs then do a reboot, if that does not help run a virus scan. Good Luck!

ITS VERY E-Z!!!! DO NOT SCAN FOR VIRUS!!!
YOUR COMPUTER IS NEW. THEIRS NO NEED TO DO THAT.

ALL STOCK LAPTOP HAS A power now!!!
It runs in the low proformace to save battery life.
Also theirs alot of Backround App. that is running in the backround.

All you got to do is disable it.

go to start
open up run
tpye in msconfig then hit enter
now a box pops up.
look for Service and click on it.
on the bottem middle it says HIDE ALL MICROSOFT PROGRAM"
click on it. then click disable all then
look for start up on the top.
click on that.
then disable all. now click on ok and restart the computer.
now it loads and runs 30% faster.
Trust me on this. Im a computer Dr.

Good answers ,also what I do is delete temp files when logging off. temp files can slow you down. Norton and Macafee antivirus are Ok but, they also slow it down because they way it designed.
I get rid of Norton very fast now .

Yes, I would run your Anti-virus program to be sure. But it might be SpyWare. (You should not have looked at those PORN sites). You should have an anti-spyware solution on your computer. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.

Good luck and Happy Computing!
