1. Are grades important? Yes and no
2.Will they help you achieve? They can on a personal level or for university/college. It helps people to gage themselves, though should not be the difining factor in determining intelligence. There are many people who never took school seriously but did well.
3. In saying all of that.... if grades are important in certain ways....and they can help you get into university etc and other institutions that look at your grades, when does it really start to matter? (elemenary, highschool, university?)

you can use that one. for example, if you have good grades, you'll be able to get into a good college and get a good profession, and have a nice house, afford a car, and even be wealthy. if you have bad grades, you will have a hard time getting into college, and a hard time getting a scholarship, and that will result in a hard life, low wage. hope that helps.

Try, "are grades truly representative of performance", or, "are grades fair", or "what about alternative grading scales?" , just a few ideas, hopefully this will get you going in the right direction, good luck!
