In addition to all the Ted Williams answers.........he hit 521 home runs, tied for 15th over all......and lost 6 years out of the middle of his career, 4 for WW2 and 2 for Korea, flying fighter planes for the United States Marines.....a certain Senator and Astronaut, John Glenn was his wingman in Korea.......if you give Ted 33 home runs a year in the prime of his career times 6, that's 719..or the All Time record, sacrificed because Ted was a patriot......he once said " I only know three songs..The Star Spangled Banner, The Marine Corps Hymn and Take Me Out To The Ballgame.and I cry for all three..."

Williams was the last and this was amazing considering that pitching was a premium back then ( the worst pitchers era in the year he hit .406 was 4.34 which would be considered good today haha) nobody will ever do it again but an itresting note Wade Boggs hit .412 over a span of 162 games but it happened over two seasons
