My brother ownt eat food , he dumps it on the floor and then chew on the bowl or plate and I try to make his foot more appealing to him but then he just puts i ton the floor or smears it on the table (his masterpiece) and then licks the spoon or chews and tries to eat the dishes. What should I do ?
Reason for Asking: My brother is like my son, and I think this is abnormal.

He is a year, and it just doesnt appeal to him as food , more as art suppiles. (Hence why I have to clean up smeared up food every night)

It is true, I dont need to lie about anything. Plus I wouldnt lie about my own brother. If I knew you and you come to my house for two weeks in a row you would see the behavior.

He puts the food on the floor or on the table, but we give it to him in his tray, a paper plate, a bowl , etc.

What are the other problems...if the child is doing this then what are the things within the child's environment that can cause the problem?
No , not really. We eat or food as regular and he just throws it we dont laugh or tell him he is a good boy, we just take the food away clean it up and then return it to him. you mentioned the brother...is the brother around a lot (or even a little) to help influence this behavior?
(the brother is the one who is liek my son, he is the one I am talkign about) No, not really.
Then...if the behavior is present then the child is getting something out of it...attention? do you spend any time showing the child what he does correctly? or are you one of the many parents only interacting with the child when there is something going wrong?
No, we dont give him attention we tell him no, take away his plate and clean his area then give it back if he does it again we take him away from the table.
But I want it to stop completely

Try not putting the bowl or the plate within his reach. I'm assuming he is in a high chair, in which case he is restrained. Keep the bowl/plate on the table, close to you, not him. Spoon feed him the food. If he tries to wack your hand away, move your hand and firmly tell him no. Don't get angry, remain calm and just keep trying. He may just be a little too young to be well mannered. What you can do is put some loose food on the tray in front of him that won't creat a mess. Things like a few cherio's or some cut up grapes... . That is how he will learn to eat. Believe me, he wants to learn. Babies are all about exploring their world. This is just part of that. Good Luck!

Well...i would say stop giving him dishes...I would also suggest getting your story straight...is it the floor or the table?

lastly, this sounds like something needed to be handled by professionals not random freaks on ANSWERS

This is normal behavior. At his age, I would cut up small pieces of food for him and let him finger feed. Examples of foods you can try are: cheerios, soft fruit, cooked veggies, soft pasta and tender meats. Forget the bowls and plates for now. Let him explore the textures of food and let him be messy.
If you insist he use bowls, plates, and utensils you will turn meals into power struggles.
As he gets older, you can slowly put plates in front of him and with time he will begin to understand that the plate is to hold food and not the food.
At his age, he should be eating more than drinking formula. He may not be hungry if he is mostly drinking formula. Around a year is when most pediatricians recommend to wean children from bottles into sippy cups.
You sound like a wonderful sister and daughter to want to help out with your brother.
Good Luck.

Try to give him hard or cold foods if he is teething. Alot of time, it is normal for babies to find something to chew on during this time. Get him a teething ring.Try getting him a high chair and not putting the food on plates, etc but directly on the high chair tray. You should also try teething medicines that kinds of numbs the gums, etc.

Have you tried to feed him the first couple of bites and then let him try to do it. If he is only a yr old it will take sometime and patients but I promise it can be done. Also, is he teething? Does he eat when you feed him? You (your parent(s)) should be trying to get off of the bottle, this will help too.

try making the food easier for him to handle. instead of it being in a bowl, just place it in front of him insmall quanities when he's in a highchair. like cut up hot dogs, cheerios, soft boild carrots, banana, ect. some kids just like to goof off.. he is a year. if he's drinking formula, then he's getting all his calories from that, he probably wont be hungry.. hence him just playing.

Depends how old is your brother, is he still drinking milk on a bottle?? He should be hungry before you put him on his chair and that way he will start eating, babies only eat when they are hungry., that is my opinion.

Needs more info.
How old is this kid? It could be a developmental problem or he just doesn't like the food that's presented.
