there's no way to learn how to wrap from reading so i suggest a wrapping party
i just did this with two of my friends you get together and between every body all talent are used here
i am sure you can rip apart a fake poinsettia and then double side tape it onto the package or also with the double sided tape- tape on candy canes!!
i found some great candy canes with little handmade jelly elves hanging onto the cane at Costco last night and all I'm doing is wrapping solid green ,red, silver, and gold presents and taping on the cute little candy canes to them!!
they look professional!

The Perfect Package ( I got this for u from Martha Stewart Webby itself..so its sure to give u the "Martha Stewart perfect" look...Happy Hols...)
Once you master the basics, wrapping a package is really quite simple; the secret is in its neatly folded ends. Before you cut the paper, wrap it around the gift. The paper should be wide enough to overlap slightly when wrapped around the box; at the ends, the paper should be trimmed so that when folded over the sides of the box, it reaches a bit more than halfway down.
1. Place the box or gift upside down on the wrapping paper so the seam will end up on the bottom.
2. Bring the paper around the box, and pull taut; the two sides of the paper should overlap slightly. Fold under a bit of the edge of the top layer. Secure with a small piece of tape.
3. Fold in the sides, creasing around the box’s edges. Sharply crease the diagonal edges formed on the top and bottom flaps.
4. Fold down the top flap, creasing around the top edge; bring up the bottom flap, creasing around the bottom edge.
5. Fold under a small bit of the bottom flap. This will give the end a smooth line. Repeat on other end of package.
6. Seal ends with tape.

Martha's Fav Bow
This bow is foolproof. To estimate how much ribbon you’ll need, loosely wrap the ribbon around the package you’ll be tying; for a very large bow or long tails, allow more ribbon. Wrap the ribbon around the package, and pull until it is taut.
1. Form ends into two equal loops that are long enough to overlap and work with.
2. Cross the right loop over the left.
3 & 4. Knot the loops by pushing right loop behind left, under, and through the hole.
5. Pull the knot tight.
6. Adjust the loops and tails until they are the same size. Notch the ends if desired

My favorite wrap job...This is so Martha...
I use brown paper bag (you can also buy brown craft paper in any craft store. I like to crinkle it up good, it adds interest. I usually use craft glue to secure (tape doesn't look so great). I wrap a bow w/ either raffia or twine. Then in the knots, I put a little holly or pointsetta or cranberry sprig(I get them at the dollar store & they will go a long way).
It takes a bit of time but the presentation is different and beautiful!

A true gift-wrapping professional doesn't tape the wrapping paper to the boxes; instead, the wrapping paper should simply wrap the gift, and the tape should only touch the other portions of the wrapping paper. Nobody likes to open a gift and see small pieces of tape with torn bits of wrapping paper covering the box!

try putting your gifts in square or rectangle boxes, use thicker wrapping paper. for smaller items - fold the wrapping papers into gift bags first.
if all these dun work, then go get ready made gift boxes or gift bags. all u need to do is add the ribbon on it.
