I like science fiction, but am open to suggestions. I'm a Harry Potter fan, LOTR fan. Not too mature, please. I've been a good reader, but for the past year books don't seem friendly. I am thinking a very good, brainwashing book.

Why don't you try Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events books?

Douglas Adams' "Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy" is a silly fast read. Forget the movie if you saw it and just read the book.

The Dune by Frank Herbert series is well written, but you might want to start with "The Butlarian Jihad" series first, which was written by Herbert's son and a co-writer The Jihad is the start of the history and helps you to understand where things came from in the original books.

Debra Doyle and James D. MacDonald's Mage War series is a good read. Start with "The Price Of The Stars."

Robert Asprin and Linda Evan's "Time Scout" books are also wonderful. Time rifts have opened in the fabric of space, allowing people to go back in time here on earth. Beware, the past is not a friendly place if you aren't careful. Asprin's other series "Phuel's Company" and "Another Fine Myth" are light, fun and fast reads and surprisingly educational if you know what to concentrate on.

Terry Pratchett is a comic master. His Discworld series will have you in stitches. What would you expect when the world is flat and resting on the backs of four giant elephants which are standing on the shell of a giant space turtle?

If you are looking for something a bit more seriouos? Try Orson Scott Card's "Ender's Game."

Depends on the age group and genre of book you're looking for. If you have low patience, maybe you should read magazines. If you want a quick, funny book try ones by Christopher Moore (wrote Lamb, The Stupidest Angel).

There's a new medieval fantasy series in hardcover that you might like. The title of the first episode is THE BLACKGLOOM BOUNTY. It's 445 pages of action, adventure, magic, mystery and mayhem. If you're a fan of Conan, LOTR or Wheel books, this is one you'll enjoy. A Hollywood producer said it was, "Like Braveheart meets Lord of the Rings." (See other comments & reviews below.)

Publishers Weekly said in a rare STARRED Review:

"A fast pace, sly humor, amusing dialogue and a richly researched background lift Baxley's fantasy, the first of a new series set in medieval Britain. When Merlin's long-ago apprentice Kruzurk Makshare (aka the Boozer) receives a dreamlike visitation from the legendary mage, he learns he must destroy another former apprentice, the villainous Seed of Cerberus. To do so will require a visit to the demon-guarded Blackgloom Keep. Enter young Daynin McKinnon, who discovers a curious rune-covered headstone, which may be the fabled Blackgloom Bounty, and brings it to Kruz's attention. Kruz believes it will provide entry into the fortress, while Daynin hopes the sale of the stone will restore his family's fortunes. The colorful cast of good guys and ne'er-do-wells includes the Pictish ghost of Brude McAlpin liberated from his tomb, assorted pursuing Caledonians and a bemused Prior Bede, whose monastery serves as a hiding place for the Blackgloom Bounty. Suitable for fantasy enthusiasts of all ages."

Library Journal said:
