Judging by the website you may need to be enrolled as a student. Resellers offering education discounts can generally do so under state or government contracts.
People can be easilty persuaded by purchasing a low cost computer, but what does the warranty offer? Most parts are 1 year parts and labor.
When you purchase systems from reputible resellers such as IBM/Lenovo, HP/Compaq, or Dell you are also paying for the support services those companies offer.
Just looking at the systems on ecollegepc doesn't look like they spend a lot on fancy design so that also keeps the cost down.

The gaming system is similar to what I built for about $1100. Of course I have a operating system, WinXP Pro, Nero, and other software. A 20" LCD flat screen monitor bought from a warehouse club, mouse and keyboard from Office Depot. A second hard drive 120GB WD IDE from best buy. A second DVD combo drive. Add these things to that gaming computer and it is the $1300 range, I'm still $200 ahead doing the labor myself and using an upgraded operating system..

Not what i would call a good deal because you can get a Dell or better at the same price. The system listed in that site has a no good power supply and it also may have lower quality ram. A brandname pc like Dell, HP, Toshiba,Gateway,....will be better off for you in the long run and the cost is very similiar.

this site might be good but the name says it all. These computers are so cheap because most of the parts are junkouts form big companies the refurbish them then sell them third party. So i suggest that you just front the money and get a brand name computer or build your own with parts from a trusted parts dealer.

Forget what keith said, this is not a bad deal for 650, but if you build the same system yourself you can do it for abour 450!

you should contact them and ask, but i think their price does not include a monitor, keyboard or mouse. If you think it may be a scam then run a check on them with the Better Business Bureau
