Get the birth control! It helps so much. You can also use it to supress menstration, so you won't even have a few days a month of bleeding.
If your mother is an RN (not just some lower educated nurse) than she really shouldn't be against birth control pills unless she is a religious fanatic who things it causes abortion or overprotective and thinks it will make you want to have lots of sex.
Sure, there are some side effects to birth control and occasionally women have to switch brands to find one that works for them, but it's okay. Sure, there is a link between estrogen and breast cancer, but there is also proof that combined contraceptives reduce a womans chances for uterine and ovarian cancer. Yes, there's a risk of blood clots, but it's minute if you are under 35 and a non-smoker.
The benefits are awesome. Shorter more controlable and predictable periods, clearer skin, no weight gain (weight gain on hbc is a myth people!), +99% effective against pregnancy and it helps with cramps and moodiness of PMS.
Really the long term effects of pain killers is much worse on your body than taking hormonal birth control especially if any of your pain killers have the potential to become addictive. Listen to the doctor! Your mom is 'just a nurse'.

Okay, I have no idea what the first person is talking about. I worked at an OBGYN office. The doctor just wants to put you on BC to regulate your periods and control the flow. It has nothing to do with if you are sexually active or not. Which is why your mom is probably a little hesitant. The pills also help with your cramps. Every time I am on the pill, I have no abd cramps at all. I think being on BC is a little safer than taking pain killers all the time. You hear more about people becoming addicted to pain killer than you do women getting cancer from BC. Good luck.

some people gain weight and get moody on the pill, but it does lighten the flow. i didn't have any bad symptoms from birth control. and frankly getting addicted to pain killers is not what a nurse should be preaching! birth control not only helped my cramps and lightened the flow, now it only lasts for three days! i would try it!

okay first i have to say...birth controles don't cause cancer any more than talking on the phone does...if you smoke and take birth controle it will increase the risk but birth controle its self will not give you cancer.
Advantages of birth controle is that it regulates your period, makes it less heavy, and HELPS with cramps and bloating..
before i started taking birth controle i would get sucj bad cramps that the whole time i had m period i would sleep in the bath room becaue the cramps made me so sick.
I found that pain killers (of any kind) don't work for me.
Disadvantage:..As with my mom your mom may think your going to go out and sleep with every boy you see......also because if the increase in hormons it can cause you to gain more weight aound your hips/stomach area,in some cases you boobs will also get bigger...
But if you really want to go and get it then she can't stop you.

hahahha!! ah the rhythm method. That's how I ended up where I am now, 6 months pregnant. According to my doc, I conceived the day before my period was due, which normally would not be the case, you are not supposed to be ovulating at that time. It worked for me and my husband for years (married 6 1/2), but as I found out, it doesn't always work. use a condom, seriously, or you could be in for a surprise.

Depends. BC with estrogen is dangerous for those women who are at high risk for breast cancer (which is why I can't take it lol). If your mother's not okay with it, you may want to stick with pain killers and also try hot packs. They work wonders :D If it stays really bad, talk to your mom about, find out why she's apprehensive about it, and see if you can work something out. Good luck!

Birth control is dangerous and may cause cancers.
It is best to fix u a hot water bottle (empty pepsi bottle) fill with hot water and put on pain.
Also take a magnet off the fridge and put on belly under belly button for relief.
Listen to your Ma, she is right
