What evolutionarily is behind a woman’s desire for a good sense of humor?

Can someone explain what advantage having a good sense of humor gives a man besides that it attracts a woman? Women want a man with a sense of humor for a reason. I want to know that reason. A genuine reason besides "it makes her happy."

Ok Alex. Here it is. A guy with a good sense of humor is generally an easygoing person. Less likely to be an abuser. Who wants to be in a tense relationship? A guy with a sense of humor tends to be more reasonable. A friend. Spouses should be best friends. A good relationship depends on being best friends.

Actually, there probably is no evolutionary reason behind a woman's desire for a humorous man.

1. Senses of humor differ from culture to culture. Jokes are not always funny across cultures and languages. Since humans are all one species, it doesn't make sense to think that a particular woman's sense of humor has any particular evolutionary advantage.

2. There is, however a possibility that because a sense of humor is something that a woman is likely to share with her own cultural group, seeking a sense of humor in a man might help to ensure that she chooses a mate from her own group, thus strengthening that group's reproductive potential.

3. Then again, some cultures - say, the Bedouin - prohibit joking between men and women. Such a hypothesis as stated in #2 doesn't make sense for these groups.

4. In Western culture, to find a mate who shares a sense of humor with you is to find a mate that might be better suited to a long-term partership with you. Then again, this only applies if long-term relationships are valued, such as in Western cultures.

That is simple a man with a good sense of humor "evolutionarily" speaking, constitutes a man with a quick wit and no fear " when things are at there darkest its a brave man who can kick back and drink some brews " , You see it is not only the sense of humor it is the strength to back it up, that is what people miss. Women are very complex simply because we are constantly multi-tasking. Not saying that men don't multi-task, but a woman's mind NEVER stops working. Even in her sleep, so we need a good laugh from time to time and we are looking for a man who has the ability to do just that. Any man who has the ability to make a woman laugh even when she's very unhappy has a talent.

Remember, laughter is something that is needed in life, we need to be able to laugh at ourselves as well as the humorous side of life from time to time. When life becomes too serious, we stop laughing and tend to become bitter. Honestly now, I ask you... Do you really want women to be bitter and hostile? Make us laugh and life is good!
