The SL55 AMG is more user friendly than the Porsche so if you want something to smoke anything out there apart while still having everyday comfort, then get the Mercedes.

Here's my advice. with cars of this caliber you really can't go wrong. Test drive both and get whichever you feel best in.
My other advice is pass on the porsche and benz. What I would really get with that amount of money is a Lingenfelter corvette Z06 427TT package. You have a 9 second 1/4 mile car that is tame on the street becausze of it's turbo setup, gets decent mpg for the power, and with the 20 or so grand you have left over you can upgrade the suspension, although the Z06 vette has a vedry capable suspension already.
Plus you get a warrenty, not that you don't with the porsche or benz, but if you modify anything on them you lose it.
or just get this. http://lingenfelter.com/05Corvette427tt1038hp.htm
that is one car that nothing you will ever see will ever think about touching or even dreaming about staying even with you.

the Porsche 911 turbo is your best bet for reliability for everyday driving, and the extra man power when needed.

HHMMMM Spend your money on a car that might actually retain it's value, and buy a Ford/Shelby Mustang GT500. In 15 years that mustang will STILL be worth what you paid for it if not more. the Porsche and Mercedes well, They'll plummit and plummit until any average yuppy who has $20K can pick up a decent one.
