I used to think AMD, then heat became a issue, then it was back to Intel Then performance sent me back AMD. But now with Duel Core Intel has the edge. Plus heat is still a issue, so I would go with Intel.
If you are talking Laptop stay with Intel they have the best laptop processor.

It depends on what you will be doing on the computer. It used to be that Intel was better for games, but in my opinion it seems that Intel and AMD are switching roles. Personally for games and high graphics items and such I would choose AMD. If you are just running basic programs and Internet then I would go with a basic Intel chip. Its hard to say without seeing the items that you are comparing and what you are looking for.

Better for what? Intel can run games, but they seem to run a bit hotter than AMD for that use. Gamers usually use AMD for that reason, and also because they ( the gamers) also tend to overclock their processors. AMDs have a little wider range to play with in the overclocking arena. They (the gamers) push their processors to the max to get the best performance from their games.

I would personally go with Intel, for starters, it's logo is alot cooler (not that that matters), and AMD tends to heat up very rapidly, and Intel ois ahead of the game with dual core processors.

They both got there plus'es.. AMD with Hypertransport technology.. Intel with there onboard memory controller on cpu, em64t, and smartcache.. They both about even honestly.. The core 2 extreme might have a little advantage power wise, but is a waste of money atm, because most programs cant take advantage of a quad core cpu..

Intel had the edge until Athlons came out.
But right now the Core2 Duo's are pretty much king.
AMD isn't done yet though.
Check out http://www.tomshardware.com/ it won't be too hard to find information on this debate.

At the monment I believe Intel has the edge. But that could change at any time.
