a weak chin and maybe a need to be protected. For Santa a just think it's bcause it is freezing in the north pole!

Guess it depends. I think they have beards so that they can hide pimples/pores/zits. Thats my opinion anyway. It also makes them look older and wiser, as well as tougher. i guess
