If you are saving an animated image from the internet, a simple right-click and "save image as..." will save the gif and all of its animation details. Pasting in many programs will not render an animated image, however. Just the first frame of the animation in those programs (e.g. Microsoft Word) will be displayed.

If you are trying to save/build an animated .gif of your own creation, make sure to select the animation options available in your image editor during the save process. Some editors with this capability include Photoshop, Fireworks, GIMP or Paint Shop Pro -- MS Paint will not work.

Paint Shop Pro can be downloaded for a 30-day trial at www.jasc.com and is fairly easy to create animated gifs with.
GIMP is available at http://www.gimp.org/downloads.

Well create the image in GIMP. That way it can stay animated and not be flattened. http://www.gimp.org God Bless.
