warm the iron and then carefully wipe on a vinegar/water mix - watch you don't burn fingers :-) I have also heard of warming the iron - vinegar and water and then ironing a piece of brown paper to clean - good luck

I use a candlestick, preferably an uncolored one. Please use this only for a flat iron, not for curling irons where the candlewax may drip into corners.

Switch on your flat iron, and rub the candlestick against the flat side. Make sure the wax drips onto a rag, not your carpet or floor or your feet. Get another rag and iron on it to wipe off the remaining wax on the iron. The stain should disappear with the wax. Repeat if necessary.

Hot Vinnegar and water mixed. Wipe Iron with a wash cloth soaked in it. Works for a curling iron too.

Dawn has a grease remover (in a blue bottle). Just spray it on and let it sit for a little while and it removes it with no problem or damage. It's also great for pots and thick stuck on grease.
