She works for a boss who loves to make peoples lives unhappy. So far this year 12 people have quit this company; they are down to 20 employees now. She is a single mother with 2 little girls age 2 3/4 and 21 months. Also she is going to school 1 night a week. She doesn’t want anyone’s help. She doesn’t hang out with any of her friends and barely talks to anyone outside of work.

My best friend was in a similar situation a couple of years ago. Here's what worked: A couple of nights a week, I would simply show up and announce that I would be cooking dinner, cleaning up, and playing with the kids while she took a bath. I would not take no for an answer. We didn't talk about it, make a big deal out of it, etc. It was very matter of fact. Eventually she became more comfortable with the fact that I was there for her and she began to ask for help when she needed it.

I would call your friend and tell her you are bringing dinner over for her girls and herself. Send her little cards and notes once in awhile that are encouraging. Go over and babysit while she studies , naps or has personal time. Be willing to listen. Be supportive of her efforts to parent and get an education for herself. She doesn't have time to "hang out" and she knows this. Good for her.

That is the life of a single parent, stress, barely enough money to make ends meet, tired all the time. Tell her you want to be part of her life to be there for her, c'mon be straight forward.

baby sit for her...
or just come to her place and hang out with her, offer to watch her kids while she take a bubble bath or even nap for a bit.

I'm sure she'll appreciate the help.
