A hard-wired system is almost full-proof. It continually checks itself which a wireless system can't really do. A properly installed burglar alarm system can be a major theft deterrent as well as a life-saving device. You can tie-in smoke detectors also.

With a wireless system you will have to be diligent about changing the batteries and often the transmitters are rather unsightly. Hire a good company whose technicians know how to do 'wall fishes'. The wiring will be hidden and therefore nearly impossible to cut. If the wiring does manage to get cut the system will inform you of a problem the moment it occurs. If the wiring is cut when the system is armed it will be read as a violation and the siren will sound.

Wireless does have some advantages like a do it yourselfer will have little difficulty installing it. It will probably be installed faster also. If the batteries in a zone fail it will only be known during testing which must be done periodically.

If you're worried about the phone line being cut there are cell-phone back-up systems available to call the monitoring company.

wireless...it is called a dog and a gun...the dog (get a little ankle biter, they raise a nice alarm and will wake the dead),will bark and warn you, so you can come out with a short 12ga. with a pistol grip and -00-tactical load, YOU will not be the "victim" in that case i guarantee.
