about 1/3 of all women carry this. It's not harmful to the woman and can come and go through out life. The IV antibiotics are a precaution so that the baby gets some before birth so that the baby doesn't catch it. It's not really a big deal you just need to know that you must go to the hospital as soon as your water breaks or you have regular contractions so they can start the antibiotics.

Not a problem, Lotsa women have this, I did for my first child, not my second though. They administered IV antibiotics after my water broke and that was it. If your water breaks and you are not at the hospital already, get there, bigger chance of infecting the baby if you dont get the antibiotics right away. My Dr. broke my water for me at the hospital, so I was all set. Don't worry you are not the first woman and you certainly will not be the last w/ strep B. Your Baby should be fine.

It's good that you found out now. If you get the antibiotics your baby will be fine. There a very small percentage that things van happen but look forward to the good side. Good Luck

I had it with my last (not far enough along with this one yet). They just put me on antibiotics. It was OK and the baby was PERFECT. Don't worry. Just make sure you get to the hospital 2 hours before delivering. That way they can give you the antibiotics. Also they don't have to use more than one needle because they just attach it to your normal IV you get.

This is fairly common. It's great that they caught it. The antibiotics are no big deal, and this will prevent your baby from health complications due to strep B. Congratulations on your new arrival!

My best friend has had this with 2 of her pregnancies. They just put her on the iv drip antibiotics and everything was fine. Nothing else happened after that.

I haven't gotten to that point in my pregnancy yet, but my friend had it and her baby was born perfectly healthy and she was just fine as well. As long as they give the antibiotics, you and baby should be just fine! :-) Good luck and congrats on the new baby!
