you didn't state what operating system your are using..kind of an important piece of information...

Considering that WSH 5.6 was just released in June, 2006 I would say that a LOT of people are still using it.

There are several VB scripts in existence.

First off, Visual Basic is a programming language designed and marketed by Microsoft. It rather loosely follows the BASIC programming language developed by Kemeny and Kurtz in 1965.

VB script is a watered-down version of the Visual Basic language. The first VB script was Visual Basic for Applications - a scripting language designed to work with Word, Excel, Outlook, and other Microsoft products. It was designed to allow siimple programming and turnkey operations for those applications. What it primarily allowed was the development of viruses for those applications by people with WAY too much time on their hands.

Microsoft then developed VB script as a language for scripting on web pages. It's the default language for Microsoft's ASP (Active Server Pages), although ASP will also allow the use of javascript. Javascript is a scripting language based on Java, which is based on C++.

There is also a version of VB script designed to be used on an individual machine using the Windows Scripting Host (WSH). WSH is freely downloadable from microsoft.com. When it's installed, you can write scripts that automate various tasks on your own computer, assuming you have administrative rights to it.

I don't use iTunes, but I can see two possibilities for the source of the error. You may have scripting disabled in your security settings, in which case you can fix it (assuming you're using IE) by accessing the Tools menu, selecting Internet Options, going to the Security Tab, pressing the "Custom Level" button, and finding the scripting section.

The other possibility is that iTunes expects to find the WSH on your system and isn't. I think that unlikely, but if you want to install it, go to

I find it hard to believe that any app is using VBScript these days. It was a Microsoft alternative to JavaScript for clinet-side browser scripting in the early days--one that didn't survive. (It may still be supported by Microsoft, but no one uses it)

Not to be confused with VB .Net wihich is the modern version of Microsofts former flagship language, Visual Basic. And not to be confused with Visual Basic for Applications (commonly called VBA), Microsoft's version for scripting office aplications.
