Whoever the people in the US are who deny that global warming is happening should be recorded for future generations so they know exactly who the people were who prevented action to stop this potentially catastrophic effect that humans are now having on this world.

The US is stubborn when it comes to taking steps to stop global warming because it would be costly for corporate America. Heaven forbid the rich get less rich that would be terrible.

drugs_are: I've never seen so much idiocy as I have in most/many of your answers. A good, sound & important question. Doesn't it give you a clue of the kind of selfish, illogical, ill informed & nasty people who simply don't care, & certainly wouldn't even contribute a "voice" to the problem? "What are we supposed to do...if [YOU] have a solution.." ( we know there are many); "Are you willing to give up electricty, heat..." (many options); "...long term phenomemona..I don't want to see the US pay most of the price..." (what price? $ or..?); "..No way to stop the cows from farting" (Brilliant!); "..any of them [sic] crappy countries.." (I guess if your neighbour throws garbage on the street, that makes it okay for you, too;) "..cycles..millions of years.." (we're doing it in about 1% of that time & nature can't adjust any longer); "Show me where there is proof the United States is the cause..." (who said cause & what's the difference when we contribute?) Promise I won't go on. This says it all: It isn't happening, animal gas is causing it, we have no alternatives, make those other crappy countries do something! we don't want to pay & so on. I've recently read some INTELLIGENT & UNBIASED global warming evidence; the Artic & Nunavut are ALREADY suffering. THIS IS A REALITY. THIS IS SOMETHING OVER WHICH WE HAVE CONTROL. (I'm just a "useless socialist.") The common attitude is--it's not hurting ME, (or it's all a lie), why care about future generations? Yet it is already hurting our planet. THANK you for the thoughtful, concerned question. I think we need to focus on "here," the U.S., & do the things we CAN do, before going "Yeah yeah yeah what's anybody else doing?" Tragic! I am SO with you!

Edit: Don't like to go on, but I wondered if anyone cares, & why, about the snow cap diminishing on MT. KILIMANJARO??? & in a relatively short period of time. This isn't just an "esthetic"--

I do suppose overpopulation is a sure hindrance. However, I do not suppose it is the greatest hindrance with reference to worldwide warming. The US does not have the maximum birthrate, nevertheless it makes use of essentially the most assets. Many nations in Africa have an excessively top birthrate, however do not use many resouces. It's what number of every character makes use of. If each character used as many assets because the usual American, we might run out beautiful swiftly. That mentioned, with all the droughts, meals shortages, vigour shortages, and common screw ups have been are most probably going through within the upcoming many years, it could aid if humans had smaller households as an alternative than significant ones.

because all the posturing by the weak european politicians and kyoto is meaningless.

When it is obvious that a world trading system and almost every individual in it is consuming more every year.

And no realistic proposal has yet been made to address the problem.

Waste of energy can be emeliorated, but only technology can cut global emissions.

Don't u and everyone you know buy more, travel more, and there are 600 million chinese and 800 Indians who don't even have a fridge. YET

It's a little difficult to do anything about the sun going through yet one more of many cycles of being hotter, as it has for millions of years. What happened to the global cooling that was supposed to happen 20 years ago that these same people were so worried about. I don't seem to hear any more about that. People sure have short and or selective memories.
Buy the way it's just about one degree hotter on average than it was 100 years ago. Don't believe it? Check some scientific sites instead of the social political propaganda sites most of this bs about global warming comes from.

Because the US is a capitalism government and americans seem to be rather near-sighted on important issues. In capitalism, the Dollar is greater than anything, even if it kills the planet. Other countries have started to lower waste and pollution, but the US only sees the present and not the consequences their actions will have in the future Cought*Iraq*Cought

There is no question that global warming exists. It is estimated that if not for global warming, the planet would be roughly 60*F colder than it is now. My question is... Is global warming as bad as people say it is?

its just the way the economy is organized, we are in fact slowly changing to slow down global warming. but this is going to take time. dont worry about it. there is new technology and we are going to develop more ways to stop hurting the earth. but just give it time

Because the politicians depend very much on the wealth of the individuals and companies that most contribute to global warming.
The USA is a dollarcracy.
